WHALE WATCH DRIVE HOUSE

Location: Truro, MA
Program: Residential – New Construction
Size: 3,300 sf
Date of Completion: 2000

This contemporary style house was designed as a speculative project for a Cape Cod couple who are developers, builders, and realtors. It was important to achieve a design that maximized space with an efficient layout, utilized simple construction methods and integrated features that would attract buyers from cities nearby.

The house is located in a quiet neighborhood with views of Cape Cod Bay, the distant dunes and the Provincetown Monument. The topography is relatively flat on the street side with sloping grade at rear of the property where the garage is tucked into the grade. The building is positioned to take full advantage of the views, the wind and the sun. The first floor is organized as an open plan for flexible use with a wrap-around deck. The house has a bedroom on the first floor and three other bedrooms on the second floor. A small study with two decks is designed to be at the highest elevation in the house which also provides greater floor to ceiling height in the dining room below. This room is the high light of the house and the feature that captured many interested buyers.
